Foundation Attorneys Challenge SEIU Forced Dues for Politics Scheme at the US Supreme Court

On Tuesday, National Right to Work staff attorneys argued before the Supreme Court on behalf of tens of thousands of California civil servants who were forced to contribute to an SEIU "Political Fight Back Fund" in 2005. The video below gives a overview of what's at stake in the case, including an interview with Foundation staff attorney Jim Young:

You can also read Right to Work President Mark Mix's op-ed on the case in The Washington Times. Here's the key quote:

Forcing civil servants to subsidize the political agenda of an organization to which they don’t belong should offend every American, regardless of political sympathies. Voluntary SEIU members may wish to financially support their organization’s political goals, but nonunion employees - many of whom disagree with the union’s agenda - are under no similar obligation. Freedom of association is a bedrock principle of American democracy, and no one should be compelled to support a group to which they don’t belong.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to release its ruling in the case by June.

Parents often prefer to use

Parents often prefer to use full-featured duo/tandem strollers. Such strollers are narrower than the other tandem strollers and they are easier to maneuver in tight spaces. However, the maneuvering becomes more difficult as children become heavier. Also graco duoglider is known for its durability and sturdiness.

involuntary unionism

I was fortunate enough to work in a "right to work" state during my career. While I did join a union, I feel it should be a choice instead of a requirement. The main problem with many unions is that they tend to substitute their own agenda for that of the membership. Union members must also realize that they share a common interest with that of the company they work for. If the company is not profitable, it cannot afford to pay its employees.
Forced unionism is more like Marxism.

Choice?

This is America, they have a choice. If you don't want to join the union then don't apply somewhere that hires only union workers, DUH. The simple fact is they want the job due to the benefits and better pay. Newsflash they have better pay and benefits because they belong to a union. They want all the perks but are not willing to contribute. Forced Unionism is some term that has no value.

By your logic

So, instead of the civil rights and equal opportunity employment acts we should have just told minorities they should only apply to jobs where white people and women don't work?

Lame

Nope, you racist. It means get the job and pay your fair share for the benefits you recieve. Unions have nothing to do with the color of you skin. Are you mad some of them make more than you?

Listen

The money was refunded to the workers. Yea that's what the FOX news channel reported. Sounds like the SEIU are trying to fix the problem.

SEIU is trying to fix it?

Yeah, This is the tip of the iceberg. SEIU is in Obama's White House Gang. They will "fix" this country to resemble USSR if the get the chance.

union dues

Oh, we know it looks like a hammer-n-cycle, but you must wear the union label.

Do you wear a helmut?

Your comments refer to SEIU as some all powerful cult. Just workers who want to earn a decent living, no world domination. When did the SEIU get to be considered a form of government??? I think you confusing them with the Catholics, now there's a corrupt system that covers the globe.

Oh yes, the SEIU is "some

Oh yes, the SEIU is "some all powerful cult" (or definitely wants to be) it's called the mafia, and they promote and support communism and pretend they're 'protecting your rights'. But try going against them and see what happens. They'll harrass you, intimidate you, damage your property, your livelihood, or even kill you if you don't go along. A controlled workforce, forced to give them money and supported by totalitarian government works very well for them and they're on their way to it if not bravely and forcefully resisted. They want to remain under shadow and pretend they are legitimate. It is lawsuits like this that have to be fought all the way to the Supreme Court that are needed to curtail their rising power until the people see them for what they are. At one time the unions served a good purpose, now they're bloated, self-serving and out of control...

Need Facts on that

"They'll harrass you, intimidate you, damage your property, your livelihood, or even kill you if you don't go along."
What case, what judge, what court has found SEIU for killing someone?
Unions served a purpose and still do. When and if the unions are gone, so will your vacations, weekends, overtime pay, health benefits, pensions, and minimum wage. Then maybe you'll see.
