Kansas City Nurse Challenges Backroom Union Deal to Silence Employees Who Oppose Unionization

Research Medical Center nurse files federal unfair labor practice charges against secret “neutrality agreement” that gives union organizers preferential treatment

Kansas City, MO (August 12, 2010) – With free legal assistance from the National Right to Work Foundation, a Kansas City nurse has filed unfair labor practice charges against two unions and her employer for signing a “neutrality agreement” that gives union organizers preferential access to Research Medical Center.

Mary Hill and many other nurses oppose unionization at Research Medical Center. Despite these reservations, HCA, Inc., Research Medical Center’s parent company, agreed to help organizers from two collaborating unions impose monopoly bargaining on Hill and her colleagues.

Hill states that, facing pressure from Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and California Nurses Association (CNA) union organizers, the company signed a secret “neutrality agreement” with officials from both unions.

This is nonsense

I'm at RMC and can tell you this is complete nonsense. HCA didn't agree to help the union do anything. The nurse in question has been given equal access, including access to a locked unit. Despite this RNs objections the democratic process is alive and well. The registered nurses of RMC will have the opportunity to advocate for their patients and their profession against a culture centered on profit not patient care.

Nope, you're wrong

Ok, so your claim is that HCA did not provide any personal information to the unions. So, why the MULTIPLE visits to my home? Why the phone calls on my personal, non-published phone line (it is however, on an emergency contact list that HCA has)? Of course, anybody can "google" someone these days for info, but are we to believe that the unions "googled" every potential vote in the hospitals? Nah, you're wrong. Shady stuff, I'm telling you!

KC LAWSUIT

If you think profit is such a bad thing why dont you just tear up every other pay check you get to demonstrate your commitment. I understand profit and I understand to make a profit you must have a better product or there will be no profit. I have a grave mistrust of altruism because I have found many occurances where not for profits displayed bias and judgemental behavior in their conduct and justified this by hiding behind the not for profit shield. I know what to expect form someone who wants to make a profit I wonder what to expect from some one who clames not to want to make a profit.
