Worker Advocates Issue Labor Day Statement: “Big Labor and the Obama NLRB Work in Concert to Undermine Workers’ Rights”

Leading union watchdog groups warn of looming bureaucratic power grabs and resulting damage to employee rights and America’s fragile economy

Washington, DC (September 2, 2011) – Mark Mix, President of the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation and National Right to Work Committee, released the following statement regarding this year’s Labor Day holiday.

“This Labor Day, many workers will enjoy a well-deserved long weekend. But as we prepare to celebrate with friends and family, union officials – working in concert with the Obama Administration’s National Labor Relations Board – are mounting an unprecedented bureaucratic offensive to grab more coercive power. Their goal is simple: To expand the number of workers forced to pay union dues and accept mandatory union representation just to keep their jobs.

“Big Labor’s ambitions were highlighted last week by the abrupt overturn of the NLRB’s Dana decision, which provided a modest check on abusive ‘card check’ union organizing. Instead of allowing workers a window period to contest the outcome of a card check drive with a secret ballot vote, the NLRB has ensured that union operatives need only present a bare majority of signed authorization cards – often collected through violent or unsavory means – to acquire monopoly bargaining privileges.

“And this decision is just the tip of the iceberg. The Obama Board – aided and abetted by its Big Labor allies – is moving forward with onerous new regulations to facilitate union organizing, including rules that will require companies to turn over employees’ home addresses to aggressive union organizers. Meanwhile, the NLRB is suing several states for attempting to protect workers’ access to secret ballot elections and has issued a complaint against Boeing for locating its newest production line in Right to Work South Carolina.

“Throughout the United States, more than 12 million American workers are already compelled to pay union dues just to keep their jobs. Millions more are required by law to accept a union’s so-called ‘representation,’ even if they never asked or voted for it.

“Meanwhile, many workers feel they have no choice but to pay for organized labor’s extensive political activities, while others are still unaware of their right to object. That’s why the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation is providing free legal aid to thousands of employees nationwide.

“This Labor Day, we commend all workers brave enough to stand up to union intimidation, harassment, and even violence as they defend their cherished freedoms. But we must also continue to fight Big Labor’s bureaucratic attack, which threatens to further subvert workers’ rights.”

The National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation is a nonprofit, charitable organization providing free legal aid to employees whose human or civil rights have been violated by compulsory unionism abuses. The Foundation, which can be contacted toll-free at 1-800-336-3600, is assisting thousands of employees in over 200 cases nationwide.

WHIMPS!!!!!!!!!!!

Every Damn One of these Union Bosses! A union has one and only one purpose today! What is it? To guarantee a job for someone who shouldn't have it in the first place!!!!! Want your job to come in over schedule? Hire a union! Want your job to come in way over budget? Hire a union! Absolutely no public money should be used to pay unions! That means ABSOLUTELY NO UNIONS in the public sector!!!!! NONE!!!!!!!!!!!
That's my never to be humble opinion.

Union leader's Power Grab killing Jobs

While is it abundently clear that power grabs by Big Labor extinguish the rights of workers, equal attention should be given to the destructive effect Union Monopoly power has on present jobs and the creation of new jobs. No employer in his right mind would put money at risk by starting or expanding a business that he knows is going to be destroyed by the monopoly bargaining power wielded by labor unions aided by the NLRB and the Administration.

Keep up the great work!

Unions

At one time Unions were necessary to get rights for workers they could not get any other way. Now they get so much money from workers they use that to get more power for themselves. They got the wages so high businesses went overseas and south to find people who will work for much less pay. Now we assemble products from things made there or sell the whole thing that was made there. Some of those things are parts made for military use! Some businesses are around that can put MADE IN THE USA label on their goods and it will mean what it says.
The unions SHOULD NOT have the power to make/force people to be members. If people have no choice they are not free!!

UNIONS

"They got the wages so high businesses went overseas and south to find people who will work for much less pay."
Minimum wage in Mexico is around $5.50 per day, and other countries are much worse. This problem was not created by labor unions, this problem was created by amoral corporations who are always seeking to increase their bottom line. Companies are not moral entities, they are not immoral entities, they are entities that do not excercise moral judgement. A corporation's prime goal is to generate profits. This makes them amoral.
I work for a company that was using several hundred undocumented workers that they worked as temporary employees through a staffing agency. These guys were making $7.50 an hour , and dragging wages down for everyone else. Because of the Union, the contractors are out, and company employees are performing those jobs making a decent wage.
Unions have fought tooth and nail for every peice of legislation that is in place to protect workers today. I will not argue that there are not people in Union organizations making more than they are worth, because there are in any political organization ( just look at the politicians in our nation's Capitol)

I like your statement

Hey Jim I really like your last sentence [If people have no choice they are not free.] It's simple and straight to the point. Good for you and your choice of words. Thanks from a right to work beleiver.

Unions

One example of what Jim wrote: Tire manufacturing in Akron, Ohio, used to be a major source of income for workers and tax revenue for the city. They priced themselves out of the market. Where are those jobs now?

UNION CONTROL/CARD CHECK
Beck provision apparently applies to non-right to work states because of union security clauses in collective bargaining agreements. If one decides to resign one's membership, one pays for activities which are germane to collective bargaining, contract administration and grievance adjustment, i.e. - representational activities. In right to work states, under the National Labor Relations Act, union security is a moot issue and no dues are paid as a condition of employment, if one chooses to be a non-member of the union. Recently, Senator Jim DeMint (SC) and Rep. Phil Roe (TN-1) introduced legislation that would ensure that employees have the right to make their decision regarding unionization in private – free from coercion from employers, unions, or other employees.
Contact your members of Congress now while they are home for recess and encourage them to support the Secret Ballot Protection Act. - [Apparently to counter far left takeover of peoples' personal decisions with card check & similar legislation.]
This bill will protect workers and ensure workplace democracy. It will also help prevent intimidation campaigns by unions that cost employers, and provide yet another obstacle on the road to economic recovery.
Let’s be honest, Big Labor’s goal is to increase union membership. Killing the secret ballot won’t create a single new job. Take action today to help protect the secret ballot, protect American workers, and protect our economic recovery. The goals of the neo-democrats/socialists/communists/and other wealth stealers, such as mentioned unions seem to be the same. SEIU, ACORN, AFL-CIO, Democrat Socialists of America, Progressive organizations, all support federal government control, rather than private, CAPITALISTIC/Wall Street & Main Street control. The stimulus-es, health care “reform”, financial “reform” - anything that takes power & control from the common person, and gives the federal governance the power to make personal decisions is applauded by progressive and/or communist websites. Thank God the men who risked everything – the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence did not give their wealth and lives in vain – because the Republicans'/adults are now in charge of Congress – not that Republicans are any better than liberals, but presently the liberals are killing America, and the Republicans are serving the people, and fighting for common-sense control – NOT eliminating CAPITALISM and/or Wall Street. Socialists will never say capitalism/Wall Street is good – it goes against their values; evidently the neo-democrats are going to use the same slogan they used to get Obama elected – but people have caught on to what “do you want the same old ---- find his quotes --- and Nov 2nd was proof people understand their message, and don't want socialism. They will deny they are socialist, but they won't deny their values – such as Wall St. is bad, but this administration and Wall St. are symbiotic, the administration just wants the power and control – they've succeeded up until now – and betting people will not get wise to their lies.

Keep up the good work and I

Keep up the good work and I will be sending a check soon. I hope that the workers get some guts and put these VERMIN on the road and keep what they make in THEIR pockets

Scum floating around on the backs of workers

The unions are nothing but a bunch of scum bags made legal by a government that could care less about the working people .They allow this freak stream of low life thugs to do as they please to get control of a company and screw the workers. I have worked in states that I had to work under union conrol and those rat bastads cost my company thousands when I asked the workers what they made per hour I showed them what their union was charging my company to have them working and they were their union bosses were screwing them by about $20.an hour and then charging them dues on top of that I got a call from one of their thugs threatnig me if I kept trying to give workers any figures ,I told him to go screw him self I would tel them any time they were geting screwed. I had about four of their thugs meet me at my truck that evening I just opened and got out my AK ( which I have to a permit to carry) along with my little 45 all so permitted I ask them if they had a problem and funny thing they forgot what they came for after I carried both in to the job office and back to my truck every day ,I never got any more calls

"scum floating" Like all good intentions, truth gets" lost".

GOOD thing the 2nd Amendment still applies. Only, being"permitted" isn't very American. Some states are "Right to Carry", as it should be! These "union people" today are anti-American + are antithetically treasonous to "OUR" way of LIBERTY. SOOO - good for -U-, there is far more of us than there is of them. They are parasitic predators of + on the kindness, fairness + generosity of the American spirit. "WE" the People need to wake up + do our duty by paying attention to more than pay day + the weekend. Knowledge of our Declaration, Constitution,+ BILL of RIGHTS; what they mean really, to us. Then VOTE accordingly every 2,4,+ 6 years like we should. We couldn't lose, esp. passing on the import to succeeding generations. Keep standing up skipfoss !
